About this deal

The action gets old quickly, though, and even with the lure of upgradable combos and new moves most people will probably be least engaged by these versions. The combat has been significantly improved compared to previous games, with players now able to fight enemies not only on the ground, but also on walls and in the air. Choose how Spider-Man fights, which powers to upgrade, who in the Marvel Universe to fight with or against, and the fate of New York City itself. Although the player is unable to free-roam after the storyline's completion, this can be achieved through a secret method, which has the player watch the credits twice.

For example, there are several weak walls which can only be destroyed by the black suited Spider-Man. Either way, Spider-Man learns Venom is attacking the Helicarrier and proceeds to plant explosives across the doomed aircraft, before being confronted by a giant, five-headed Venom. The combat is much more explosive than any other Spider-Man game, but that's about the only real difference here. Overhauled Combat System Provides Deepest Arsenal Ever: A reengineered combat system fuses Spider-Man's speed and strength to create deadly new attacks and combos. Now, in fairness, more than a few of the terrible games based on the character were thanks to Acclaim, but even after Activision picked up the license, a few stinkers hit the ground running. It has boss battles that are both fun and challenging, and it has a story line that is genuinely one of the most enjoyable a game based on comic book heroes has ever produced. Spider Man: Web of Shadows focuses on the upgradeable hand-to-hand combat system that develops as the story progresses, unlocking special attacks and maneuvers that can be used to take down enemies and rack up impressive combo bonuses using webs and wall-climbing skills. He is then informed by Nick Fury that the sonic generator is on the top of Fisk Tower, so he goes there to combine the parts he collected to a super-computer, completing the generator. This is further reinforced when Luke Cage shows up and Spider-Man advises him he was checking on “a friend” in the hospital; fine, this is before New Avengers. Every 1-2 minutes you'll notice the game seems to freeze for a half second and then starts up again.

Every Choice Counts: Dependant on the gamer's actions and decisions, a morality meter will gauge whether citizens cheer Spider-Man on or run away in fear. Red suit Spider-Man relies mostly on web attacks and speed, where black suit Spider-Man relies entirely on brute strength and raw power. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is a 2008 action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. The infected citizens worship Spider-Man as their new leader while he swings through a New York City covered in symbiotes, reflecting upon how great power is simply a lot of power and that it is far better than sharing the responsibility.

Players control Spider-Man and can web swing, web zip, crawl walls, and use the 'spider-sense' to identify and lock onto enemies. Web of Shadows assembles a great cast of heroes and villains, combines them with a fantastic story, and integrates an intuitive and exciting control scheme and evolving combat system that easily makes this the best Spider-Man game ever made to date for any system. the other hand, a sizable chunk of the story concept seems to have been lifted wholesale from Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. The Head-to-Head is designed to let gamers know which version of a multiplatform game is worth your hard-earned money.

This probably isn't anything you're average consumer would notice, but experienced gamers will appreciate the relative smoothness of the 360 version. The only voice that’s particularly annoying is, unfortunately, the voice of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, who’s trying to sound like Tobey Maguire but instead sounds whiny, though he does grow on you eventually. The ATE’s, while less onerous than their Spider-Man 3 counterparts (Only one notable ATE pops up that isn’t scripted; the rest take place in cutscenes), are still annoying, and while it’s nice that the developers offered retries immediately following failure and popped them up on-screen a few seconds before they needed to be pressed to give you fair warning… well, look, in Shenmue, these sorts of things simply changed the direction in which the story flowed; in Web of Shadows and about a billion other games of this type, you do the presses or die, period. Most people should find the PS3 and 360 versions to deliver what they're expecting from a Spider-Man game.Thankfully, the game essentially sets up the first hour or two of gameplay as a sort of tutorial that actually allows you to learn the basics reasonably well, and before you know it, you’ll be diving around beating up bad guys like a pro. Despite the fact that Mary Jane Parker is about a hundred pounds and has a broken arm, she can fight off symbiotes and fire a shotgun one-handed.

As the generator is powered up, Spider-Man finds a symbiote-filled fountain containing seven serpent heads with Venom's consciousness. The 360 version has a slight advantage with achievement points and a smoother framerate, but otherwise the games are very similar.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows gives you an unprecedented level of gameplay choice, including for the first time, control over the game's direction and outcome. Being provided a taste of the chaos that envelops the city, then being shown all of the events leading up to that chaos, is a pretty good way of telling a story when done properly, and Web of Shadows generally does a good job of showing this thing. The DS version has some nice looking environments, but it suffers from a frequently dark color palate that can make it difficult to pick out much detail. You can cycle ally summon or special timed buffs for your character with the shoulder button (hitting the circle button to activate it).
